With the goal of putting fun back into the traditional pub experience with an American twist, the Tilted Kilt located in Woodridge, Illinois, uses timeless design with a Celtic theme to give customers a memorable experience.
The budget played a very important role in the projects design as well as the ease of use and reliability of the system. Those were the reasons to introduce Control4 system which is commonly known for the residential applications. There was a challenge to convince the parties involved in the project to accept implementation of residential technology to the commercial environment.
The HD displays are wired so they can be configured to act as stand-alone display or a group. The predetermined groups are designed with the goal to give each patron the best sightlines no matter where he stands or sits in the room. The HD displays are located in the restaurant in such a way that from any point a guest can see at least three of them. With 30 HDTVs scattered around the room, guests have multiple viewing options.

All HD distribution video wiring is done with Cat5e cables and video baluns to transfer from standard twisted pair to component video.
All speakers installed are pendant ceiling speakers (including 4 subwoofers), which helps with unobstructed sightlines, audio distribution and also aesthetics of the room. Black ceiling speakers blend in the black ceiling space. The whole audio system is divided into 4 zones with separate volume controls (hallways, bar area, main room, party room). All music selection is provided by PC Music service. Sony Blu-Ray player can be used as additional source of music and video.
Through Control4, Procom has given Tilted Kilt the flexibility to deliver on-demand entertainment that will keep guests coming back for more. Procom configured the Control4 system to manage all of Tilted Kilt’s audio and video using an HC500 and an HC300 Controller. Using either the SR250 remote, the 7-inch in-wall touchscreen, or iPhone, both the owner and employees can easily manage the system and deliver an unparalleled viewing experience for Tilted Kilt customers.
Control4 system was also programmed to automate daily routine tasks. There are custom macros for opening and closing the restaurant and custom viewing options so there are no displays next to each other with the same program.
For video sources, the Tilted Kilt can move between eight HDTV DirecTV receivers or the installed Sony Blu-Ray player. Procom also integrated 24 speakers and four sub-woofers to create a building-wide sound system. For specific events, larger groups, or private parties, Tilted Kilt also has the option of lowering two 121-inch screens and playing back video via two Sony projectors.
The architecture requirements and design comes from the Tilted Kilt headquarters, so we could only follow the rules. However, our main idea with electronics is aesthetic integration with interior design. We installed all visible parts of the system (TVs, speakers, controls) in such way so they would blend in the background of the room.
We have met our deadline with no delays. The original budget was slightly exceeded but mostly it was caused by the upgrades requested by the client. We have added more TVs as requested by the owner and upgraded the speakers system.
