About Control4

Control4 is a leading provider of the operating system for the smart home, delivering intelligent control over consumer electronics products, appliances and networking systems through an easy-to-use and intuitive software interface. With the most intelligent, open and affordable control solution on the market, Control4 is now the platform of choice for major consumer electronics companies, residential homes, businesses and utilities.

Control4 aims to improve people's lives by reducing the complexity of personal (or in-home) technology with easy-to-use, intelligent and affordable automation solutions.

Behind everything Control4 does is one simple belief: life's better when everything works together. The Control4 operating system enables customers – from a busy mom in London, to the director of customer service of a 5 star hotel, to the facilities manager of a booming business complex, to connect and control virtually any device in a home, room or business, automatically. Effortlessly.

Business Overview

Leveraging a distribution channel that includes over 1,600 custom integrators, retail outlets, and distributors in 70 countries, Control4 delivers automation solutions to customers around the world. Despite a challenging economy and downturn in the housing market, Control4 continues to drive revenue growth, reporting a solid double digit increase in 2009.

The company helped transform the custom integration market by introducing in 2005 the first truly affordable, easy to use home automation system and since that time, has continued to reinforce its technology leadership by introducing an array of new products and services: mobile and online solutions, Control4 0S 2.0, a powerful home automation platform, new hardware products, and the 4Store, the first application marketplace for the home. The opportunities for innovation are limitless.

Partnerships & Licensing

Control4 solutions interoperate with more than 6,500 third-party consumer electronics devices–and that number is rapidly growing. By partnering with the biggest brands in consumer electronics, energy, lighting and home security, Control4 is driving an ever-expanding eco-system of devices that seamlessly interoperate in the home, hotel or office.

Today, as consumer electronics and appliance leaders look to add value to their product lines, they are turning to the Control4 platform for the solution. To maximize this opportunity, Control4 has established a separate licensing business unit to work with partners who wish to integrate Control4 technology in their televisions, AV receivers, appliances, phone systems, routers and more. As these products move into the market by the millions, Control4 can enjoy a much broader consumer base to which it can market additional automation capabilities.

Powering an Emerging Energy Market

Today, utilities are investing billions to upgrade the world's electricity infrastructure and Control4 plans to play a pivotal role in helping deliver the benefits of the smart grid to consumers. In 2009, the company established a separate division based in Silicon Valley to focus on this exciting opportunity.

The company's open and secure platform and track record in delivering compelling consumer experiences is an attractive combination for utilities looking to better manage precious energy resources. The Control4 Energy Management System 100 enhances the connection between consumers and utilities, exchanging data and insight for better home energy management and load control.

Control4 was born out of a passion to make home control an affordable option for everyone. The company founders recognized that while the category was growing, the market was only targeted at customers building multi-million dollar custom homes or doing major reconstruction on existing homes. As veterans in the home-automation industry, they believed homeowners should have a more affordable way to automate existing homes, and without the headaches and prohibitive costs of a major remodel. Additionally, they wanted solutions to be "grow as you go" so that customers could easily add new products over time, as budget allowed. In 2003, with better wireless standards and the advent of Internet Protocol (IP) technology, the team saw an opportunity to make this vision a reality.

Control4 shipped its first products in 2005. Today, the company has over 1,600 dealers in the US and Canada, has international distribution in 70 countries.
